Firm Profile
The firm of IPLO® Intellectual Property Law Office was founded in 1988 by Michael Hughes as a proprietorship. Various associates joined the firm over the years, including F. Eric Saunders, Raymond E. Roberts, and Larry B. Guernsey. In 1999, the firm was merged with a firm headed by Paul Hickman, eventually becoming HICKMAN, COLEMAN & HUGHES. This firm then merged with OPPENHEIMER, WOLFF & DONNELLY in 2001. Big firm life did not suit several of the members, so Michael and Raymond, along with Robert Guillot, who Michael had known since 1979, formed a new incarnation of IPLO as a partnership in March 2002 in Campbell, California. Larry Guernsey joined as an associate. When the office lease in the Pruneyard Towers came to an end in late 2007, Ray and Larry departed to form their own practices (Ray to Rancho Cucamonga and Larry to San Jose) while Bob and Mike moved to the current location in downtown San Jose.
Throughout our professional careers we have all concentrated on Intellectual Property law and related matters exclusively. That focus remains today. Additional information may be found in the Firm Philosophy section.
